More than 65 percent of CBD users were taking it for anxiety, according to a survey of 5,000 people. Does it help? The CBD industry is flourishing, conservatively projected to hit $16 billion in the United States by 2025. More than 65 percent of CBD users have taken it for anxiety, a market research firm said. Chronic pain, insomnia and depression follow behind.

Unbeknownst to many Americans however, many citizens have grown up using CBD, believing it to be a medicine derived from hemp.

Barbara Roberts was skeptical when her 17-year-old daughter, Ashley, started getting pain symptoms after having her tonsils removed while in high school in June 2013. That's when Roberts became familiar with CBD.

"From the moment I started to see how she was taking her meds, it was like what is this going into," Roberts said. "I started to sit down and I thought 'I want to see these things that you have right now.'"

The answer Roberts got was the answer many others probably get on a daily basis. Ashley's pain was now under control.

Roberts is not alone.

A growing number of nonmedical users are starting to buy CBD because they believe it has no narcotic effect. Americans are also starting to believe the plant that so many of us take for granted in our everyday lives has medicinal properties.

"I think once people realise there is this whole spectrum of CBD that can be earned, this science is coming out of it, the data is starting to pile up and it really opens up the dialogue," Santos said.

CBD is the key ingredient in the product Six Sigma Botanical's CBD Wizzy blend, which is a commercially distributed (Eco Salvia, Inc.) supplement made with CBD and other botanicals. The company says their proprietary essence will promote a heightened "humility and clarity." The gel becomes more transparent by "brightening and deepening the appearance."

"A lot of people have this misconception that CBD is going to give you this pleasant uplifting feeling," said Laura Wood, lead author of the six-pack of study found on the company's website.

"We only wanted to make sure it helps people," Wood said. "If people have no problems now and they don't deal with any side effects, they want to be happy because they have this great product that's actually helping people."

While Six Sigma Botanical keeps researchers busy and profits for it, its potential is not lost on Jones.

"I am an adult at heart. I'm not preaching this to little kids," Jones said. "I have prescription medication for my medical disorder. We have to look at the whole process.

"If we had research right now, we could develop CBD into something that can be prescription medication at the same time."

Using CBD to our advantage

CBD is safe for children, and safe for animals too. It is safe for pregnant or nursing women.

It can, however, cause some serious side effects. People with heart failure should avoid it. Take CBD with caution if you're taking medications such as cholesterol-lowering statins, anti-seizure medications, heart rhythm-control drugs or liver-culturing drugs. Those drugs may urinate out the CBD within a day or so of taking them.

People who take certain sleeping pills or antibiotics may breathe harder and sweat more, which may lead to an increased risk of getting a cold or infection.

Since he was 10, Mark Bearden has used CBD products to deal with his ADHD symptoms. Mood stabilizer Paxil has helped a lot. Now, he's hoping to create a strain of marijuana that will stimulate his endocannabinoid system.

The experience couldn't be better, he said.

"Since I've started using hemp extracts, I've gotten better," Bearden said. "My symptoms have lessened, my focus has increased, and I stay up later. That's worth going through five days of pain from CBD for I keep sleep through the night."

Bearden isn't alone. His friend did the same study that carnie Banerjee has been through. At age 16, he lost 20 pounds from diabetes when he started taking a meal replacement known as "Maren's Comfort" that contains CBD for a week or two at a time. He said he sleeps like a baby the rest of the time.

For example, at a place like Chino Valley Fair in Chino, where people fly in from five continents to exercise, one can see and feel the benefits of CBD.
